Purchased in Denmark for 3082 Kroner and delivered to Miami Florida in 1973, this chair and ottoman have been with the original owners for nearly 50 years. We acquired them this summer and just finished the restoration. Not only does the set look superb, but we are listing it with the original bill of sale and brochure / flyer. We’re quite certain you won’t find a more sublime vintage original manifestation of the Madsen & Schubell Model MS68. So…. how did we restore this set? The seat and ottoman cushions needed new foam, so we had to cut out the suede rope ties and re-do all the tufts with new leather knots after the foam was replaced. Once the cushion work was done, we re-dyed the faded leather to match the original chocolate brown color that had faded over the years. This process also included coloring both shells for the chair / ottoman and original headrest cover. The leather itself was already in outstanding condition, which helped make the coloring process a success. Once the color was even, we applied our clear-coats and detailed the teak wood bases. Finally, we fixed the adjustment mechanism on the ottoman and tested the recline / swivel apparatus on the chair. Everything checked out, so it’s ready for another 50 years in your living room.
Pull the level, tilt back and lock the chair into any position for the perfect recline. The ottoman also has 3 slope-positions which allow your legs to bend at the knee and drape over with an ergonomic contour. The chair has an arm-less scoop profile that cradles the body in soft leather and looks amazing from any angle. The harlequin diamond tufted leather has a tailored look befitting its’ designer pedigree that perfectly compliments the honey colored teak and metal bases.
