Description

Elevated design is the hallmark of this A-3 Stemlite mushroom lamp by Bill Curry. The table lamp features it’s original deep orange enamel paint. The bulb is shielded by the original, elegant, white glass mushroom dome. The dome rests upon the tulip base inspired 20th Century design heavyweight, Eero Saarinen. The lamp works great and would be the perfect addition to your bedside table, dresser, desk or anywhere else that would benefit from lustrous ambient light.

Bill Curry (1927—1971) A graduate of the Los Angeles Art Center, Curry spent time as an illustrator, ad man, industrial designer and design director. In 1962, Curry founded the home furnishings company Design Line, Inc. in El Segundo, California. He ventured into lighting and interior design and founded Design Line to become a huge success in the 1960s and 70s. Many of Curry’s creations were showcased at the Pasadena Art Museum and, after being labeled the “best lamps of the year” by Industrial Design magazine, his iconic “Stemlites” were selected by the U.S. Department of Commerce for display in exhibitions in the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, and Iraq as examples of quality American design. Galleries and museums in California have been honoring his design ever since for being Los Angeles Space Age Pop at its finest.

With more than 50 national design awards, including the Award of Distinctive Merit from the New York Art Directors Club, Bill Curry was a sum of parts. From his early years as a Ad Man, Graphic Designer and Creative Director he ventured into lighting and interior design and founded Design Line to become a huge success in the 1960s and 70s.
