1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Ram Air Cobra Jet 351 Cleveland

1972 Cobra Jet Mustang

SKU: 72mach1 Category:

Description

1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 numbers matching rebuilt 351 Cleveland Q Code Cobra Jet Engine. Only 7000 miles on rebuild.

The 71-73 Mach 1 generation is no longer the “bulky” “flatback” panned by automotive journalists of the 1970’s. Car & Driver Magazine said… “The Dearborn stylists came to a fork in the path and tried to follow two different trails…. In the Mach 1 you get the bread-van rear of the racing car grafted to the traditional Mustang nose, and the combination wallows in indecisiveness”. Maybe so, but it also looks like the DNA of a hammerhead shark, cobra and a bull were spliced with a ton of US steel. Far more aggressive looking than the typical 70’s muscle car, it’s a snorting monster that wants nothing more than to frighten your neighbors. Sorry Iacocca, but your little pony grew into a hell horse. The ’72 Mach 1 is an unapologetic, carbureted suicide machine. “The blind spot is enormous”… too bad, “you can’t even see out the rear window”… stop crying, “the buckets are so deep and the hood so long the road disappears”… tell it to your mama.

The 1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is absolutely polarizing, which is exactly why it’s so awesome. Indifference is rare, you either love it or hate it. The number one thing people ask when they see this car is “what is it? “. Thanks to low production numbers and a drastic body redesign, It’s no surprise why the average bystander doesn’t recognize this otherwise ubiquitous Ford model. Inspired by fastback Italian muscle cars like the DeTomaso Pantara and Lamborghini Espada, the innovative designers at Ford are only now being lauded for their revolutionary concept of the modest Mustang. Can’t afford a Mangusta? This is arguably the next best thing.

The original owner of this 1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 checked every box on the build order. Nearly every conceivable option is here, most notably the Cobra Jet Engine upgrade. Although this repaint is not true to the original color, the metallic graphite with black trim and black interior is a sinister combination.
