Description

Brutalist Mid-Century Modern coffee table by Silas Seandel. The undulating oval shaped base features a large, organic floral sculpture made of patinated metal with copper, steel, gold and brass tones. The base is topped with a thick oval shape glass slab. Signed by artist.

Silas Seandel was born in New York City, August 11, 1937. He studied sculpture and economics at the University of Pennsylvania and was graduated in 1959. He opened his studio in 1963. He was one of the first artists to introduce traditional sculpture techniques into the field of furniture, and his handsome tables are frequently seen in outstanding residential interiors.

While Mr. Seandel was working on a collection for a one man show, he was commissioned by an architect to create a wall sculpture for a building under construction. Mr. Seandel has been working almost exclusively for architects, interior designers and engineers ever since.

Also known for the large architectural sculpture he has executed most recently a WORLD TRADE CENTER MEMORIAL for the lawn of Greenwich Hospital, Greenwich CT, Silas Seandel is perhaps even better known for his unique, one of a kind pieces of sculptured furniture, It is another way of introducing art into your life.
