Stunning, rare, mid-century modern six drawers dresser by Stanley featuring whimsical brass spade pulls. The white painted drawer facades are an original feature. The unique white/walnut combination is a timeless treatment that transcends the decades. This vintage 1950s set is right at home in contemporary or retro decor themes. This listing is for the long dresser alone, but we also have a matching high boy dresser and nightstand (sold separately).
We’re beyond proud of our restoration on this set. Not only is this Stanley’s most beloved line, it’s also their most elusive, so any opportunity to get our hands on even one nightstand is an honor. We take our rehabilitation process and techniques very seriously. The key is making the piece look like it was never refinished in the first place. We do this this by maintaining patina and imperfections that add to the charm, while gently rehabilitating the parts that need it. The old growth cathedral grain walnut exteriors look dark, oily and even richer than when they were 5 decades ago. American crafted quality and design at its best.
Created by The Stanley Furniture Company in the 1960s. The straight line construction and unique, brass spade-shaped pulls add to the appeal. The spade pulls bring a Moroccan inspiration that was ahead of its time in the 1960s and is now seeing a tremendous resurgence. A bold and dashing design statement is also made by the raised, tapered, finger joined walnut legs which lift the cases on a pedestal to further celebrate their beauty.
About the restoration:
The drawers on the highboy and nightstand have been repainted. The drawers on double dresser are original, but look great. Walnut sides and tops have been gently refinished using our proprietary techniques. Nearly all blemishes have been mitigated. The pulls are essentially in original condition with age appropriate patina and wear. The pulls on the highboy were painted faux gold, but it actually looks really nice so we left them in that state. We can easily remove the faux gold at buyers request.
